SRINAGAR: Police in Pulwama district of South Kashmir have stepped up night patrols across vulnerable areas and, during a late-night operation, seized heavy machinery being used for illegal mining activities.
Police teams from Police Station Litter conducted targeted checks at Rambi Ara and Nikloora village on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, where two JCB machines, five tractors and one loader were intercepted while allegedly engaged in illegal extraction of minerals.
Officials said a case has been registered in connection with the seizure. FIR No. 104/2025 has been lodged under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 3 of the Prevention of Public Property Damage Act.
Police officials said the enforcement drive is part of a broader crackdown on illegal mining in the district, particularly during night hours when such activities reportedly increase.
Authorities said strict action will continue against those found involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals, adding that such activities damage public property and pose serious environmental risks. [KNT]
