SRINAGAR: In a move to enhance public safety and communication security, the Srinagar District Police has launched an inspection drive targeting SIM card vendors across the district.

The initiative seeks to prevent misuse of SIM cards for criminal, fraudulent, or terror-related activities while ensuring strict adherence to Know Your Customer (KYC) norms and telecom regulations.

Police teams from multiple zones, including Lalbazar, Nowhatta, Harwan, Ahmadnagar, Zadibal, Soura, Nishat, Rainawari, and police posts Khimber and Bagyas, conducted thorough inspections of vendors operating within their jurisdictions.

Over 150 SIM vendors were scrutinised, with officers verifying identity proofs, record maintenance, and ensuring that SIM cards are issued only to genuine subscribers with valid documentation.

Authorities warned that vendors found violating regulatory requirements could face legal action, including fines, licence cancellation, or prosecution under applicable laws.

The public has been urged to cooperate with the inspections, safeguard SIMs registered in their names, and report any suspicious activity or irregular issuance to the nearest police station or the District Police Helpline.

Srinagar Police affirmed its commitment to maintaining the integrity of communication networks and preventing their exploitation for unlawful or anti-national purposes.
