Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has approved a major relaxation in the minimum educational qualification required under the Marriage Assistance Scheme for poor girls, allowing beneficiaries with a minimum 8th Class pass or its equivalent to avail assistance up to 31 March 2028.
The order issued by the Social Welfare Department, a copy of which lies with Alfaaz – The Words, grants partial modification to the earlier Government Order No. 49-JK(SWD) of 2022. The decision follows the concurrence of the Finance Department and the approval of the Council of Ministers.
As per the order, the relaxation will be effective from 01 April 2025, and necessary amendments stand incorporated.
The Omar Abdullah led government has also laid down a procedure for processing previously rejected cases where candidates could not qualify due to the educational bar.
