Srinagar, Oct 24: The Jammu & Kashmir National Conference (NC) has secured victory in at least two of the four Rajya Sabha seats from the Union Territory, while the results for the remaining two are still awaited.
According to official disclosures, senior NC leader Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan won one seat, securing 58 votes in the legislative assembly poll which saw 86 MLAs cast ballots. Sajad Ahmad Kichloo of the party won the second seat.
Early indications suggest the NC-led alliance holds a comfortable edge in the race for the first two seats, thanks to its numerical strength in the Assembly. The party is also well-placed to vie for the third and fourth seats, although the outcome remains uncertain pending final counting.
The vote count is expected to conclude later today, with full results likely to clarify how many of the remaining two seats the NC or its allies will clinch.
