SRINAGAR: At least 40 people were evacuated to safer locations after a flash flood struck Bathoi village in the Mahore subdivision of Reasi district, damaging several houses and other structures.

The flash flood was triggered after intense rainfall caused the Jamslan River to swell suddenly, sending large volumes of water, mud and debris into residential areas and causing extensive property damage.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Mahore, Shafket Majeed, said no casualties had been reported, but several houses had suffered partial or complete damage.

“Many structures have been affected by the flood, and several houses have sustained extensive damage,” Majeed said.

Officials said the extent of the damage was still being assessed, with reports continuing to emerge from the affected village. Initial surveys indicate that more than half a dozen houses have been damaged, though the number may increase as assessment teams complete their inspections.

As a precautionary measure, around 40 residents were evacuated from vulnerable areas and shifted to safer locations.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha reviewed the situation and spoke with the Deputy Commissioner of Reasi. He directed the district administration to ensure immediate relief and assistance to affected families.

In a statement, the Lieutenant Governor said that while several houses had been damaged in the incident, no loss of life had been reported. He instructed officials to provide all necessary support and relief to those affected by the flash flood.
