
SRINAGAR: Police in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Tuesday arrested a woman drug peddler during naka checking at Laalan Bypass and recovered a contraband substance, suspected to be heroin, from her possession.
According to police, a naka party from Police Post Dialgam had set up routine checking at Laalan Bypass when the accused woman was spotted moving from Bondialgam towards Laalan. On noticing the police, she allegedly attempted to flee, raising suspicion. She was, however, swiftly apprehended by the alert police personnel.
During her personal search, a quantity of substance resembling heroin was recovered from her possession. She was identified as Shugafta Akhter, daughter of Mohammad Hussain Dar, a resident of Dangerpora, Anantnag.
Police said that a case vide FIR No. 130/2026 has been registered under Sections 8/21 of the NDPS Act at the concerned police station, and further investigation has been initiated.
Police stated that the accused has been previously involved in multiple narcotics-related cases, and her arrest is being seen as a significant development in the ongoing drive against drug trafficking in the district.
