Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu Visits Udhampur Campus to Review Academic, Research and Developmental Initiatives

Udhampur, 19-04-26: Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, undertook a detailed and extensive visit to the Udhampur Campus to review ongoing academic programmes, assess proposed initiatives, and evaluate the progress of various developmental works. The visit underscores the University’s sustained commitment to strengthening its offsite campuses and ensuring the delivery of quality education supported by robust infrastructure.

The Vice Chancellor was accompanied by Prof. Neelu Rohmetra, Dean Research Studies; Prof. Sangita Gupta, Dean Planning and Development; and Dr. Neeraj Sharma, Registrar, University of Jammu.

During the visit, Prof. Yash Pal Sharma, Rector, Udhampur Campus, delivered a detailed and data-driven PowerPoint presentation, providing a comprehensive overview of the campus’s academic profile, student enrolment, ongoing teaching-learning processes, research activities, extension programmes, and future expansion plans. He also highlighted key infrastructural and administrative challenges currently faced by the campus, including certain bottlenecks that are impeding its optimal functioning and growth. Emphasizing the need for timely intervention, he sought institutional support for addressing these issues in a phased and sustainable manner.

A significant component of the visit was the Vice Chancellor’s interaction with senior officials of the District Administration, wherein issues of critical importance to the campus were discussed threadbare. The meeting was attended by Sh. Umesh Shan (ACD Udhampur), Sh. Uttam Singh (CPO Udhampur), along with officers from Public Works Department (PWD), Power Development Department (PDD), Public Health Engineering (PHE), and representatives from PMGSY. The discussions focused on improving essential infrastructure such as augmentation and regularization of water supply, upgradation of road connectivity to the campus, strengthening of electricity infrastructure, and ensuring better civic amenities. The officers assured full cooperation and committed to addressing these issues on priority to facilitate the smooth and efficient functioning of the campus.

Interacting with faculty members, non-teaching staff, and students, the Vice Chancellor appreciated their dedication, resilience, and proactive initiatives in maintaining academic vibrancy despite certain constraints. He lauded the efforts of the campus in promoting quality teaching, student-centric activities, and community engagement. He emphasized that offsite campuses like Udhampur hold immense potential to emerge as important academic hubs and assured that the University would extend all necessary support for their growth and development.

Prof Umesh Rai also expressed his sincere gratitude to the District Administration for their continued support, coordination, and responsiveness in addressing infrastructural and logistical challenges faced by the campus.

Prof. Neelu Rohmetra and Prof. Sangita Gupta, while sharing their perspectives, appreciated the academic and developmental initiatives undertaken by the Udhampur Campus. They assured their full cooperation and institutional support in further strengthening academic programmes, enhancing research output, and accelerating developmental activities. They reiterated the University’s vision of ensuring inclusive growth and equitable resource distribution across all campuses, thereby fostering a holistic and balanced institutional framework.

Other officials accompanying the Vice Chancellor included Er. Amit Sharma, Executive Engineer UWD; Irfan Goni, Campuses Development Officer; Er. Shami, Assistant Engineer; and Er. Vikas Vaid, who also contributed to the discussions related to infrastructure planning and execution.

The visit concluded with a comprehensive review of actionable points and future strategies. The Vice Chancellor emphasized the need for time-bound execution of development works, effective removal of administrative bottlenecks, and sustained focus on academic excellence, innovation, and capacity building. He called for enhanced coordination among all stakeholders to ensure that the Udhampur Campus evolves into a vibrant, self-sustaining centre of higher learning, research, and innovation.

All stakeholders expressed their collective resolve to work in close coordination towards realizing this vision and transforming the Udhampur Campus into a model offsite campus of the University of Jammu.
