Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Secretariat has disallowed two private members’ resolutions submitted by MLA Langate Sheikh Khursheed Ahmad, citing provisions under Rule 179 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business.
As per an official communication issued by the Assembly Secretariat, a copy of which lies with Alfaaz – The Words, the resolutions seeking the release of all political prisoners and rationalisation of the reservation policy in Jammu & Kashmir, have not been admitted for discussion in the House.
The first resolution had called for the immediate release of individuals detained on political grounds “in the interest of justice, reconciliation, and restoration of democratic space,” while the second sought “fairness, transparency, and equal opportunities” through a reformed reservation framework aligned with present socio-economic realities.
Reacting to the development, the MLA Sheikh Khursheed expressed disappointment, stating that two key public-interest issues had been blocked from debate on the floor of the House. He said that discussions on such matters were vital for transparency, accountability, and democratic engagement, particularly in a region where these subjects directly impact people’s lives.
“Discussion and transparency are the essence of democracy, and keeping these issues outside the House serves neither justice nor progress,” said AIP senior leader Sheikh Khursheed.
