SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday alleged that drug smuggling into the Union Territory has been orchestrated for decades with the aim of funding terrorism and harming the younger generation.

Addressing a public meeting after leading a padyatra in Ramban under the ‘Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan’, the Lt Governor said the drug problem goes beyond law and order and is part of a cross-border conspiracy.

He stated that the entire drug network would be identified and dismantled, adding that all drug hotspots would be mapped and targeted. He further said that strict action would be taken against traffickers, and directed law enforcement agencies to disrupt supply chains and identify individuals linked to such networks.

LG Sinha emphasized that no smuggler would be spared and described the crackdown as comprehensive, including those allegedly connected to cross-border operations.

Calling for a “Whole of Government” and “Whole of Society” approach, he urged collective responsibility in fighting drug abuse. He also encouraged the formation of women-led vigilance committees at the panchayat and ward levels, calling women the frontline of the campaign against drug abuse.

He cautioned youth against drug consumption, describing it as a form of exploitation and dependency, and urged them not to fall into such traps.

The Lt Governor reiterated that rehabilitation and treatment of addicts would remain a priority, while those involved in trafficking would face strict legal action.

He later administered an anti-drug pledge and flagged off a bike rally as part of the awareness campaign in Ramban.
