
Jammu, Apr 23: In a massive strike aligned with the Union Territory’s ‘Nasha Mukt Abhiyan’, Police in Jammu have achieved a major success in dismantling a lethal narco-terror link with the seizure of a foreign (US made) pistol, 13 live rounds besides high-grade heroin, mobiles from a drug peddler in Bishnah.
Peddler was apprehended on the spot.In a separate operation, the Police arrested two drug peddlers with heroin, cash amount of Rs 25,410 and six mobiles foiling drug distribution attempt at village Chak Chua in Bishnah area.
“During a high-vigilance operation on April 21, 2026, a specialised team from Police Station Bishnah intercepted a grey Baleno, bearing registration number JK21G-3867 and recovered a sophisticated US-made Beretta pistol with 13 live rounds besides approximately 256 grams of high-grade heroin (Chitta), 2 mobile phones and a weighing machine at Mehmoodpur naka in Bishnah. Related to this, a case FIR No 67/2026 U/S 8/21/22/25 NDPS Act, 3/25 Arms Act was registered at Police Station Bishnah,” SP Headquarters Anna Lata Sinha, while addressing a press conference, said, adding, “This successful interception effectively neutralised a significant threat to regional security, preventing both the spread of lethal narcotics and the potential for armed violence.”
The accused, identified as Amit Kumar, son of Swaran Lal, resident of Sehora, tehsil Bishnah was apprehended on the spot after he failed to provide any legal justification for the possession of the contraband and the illegal firearm.
“Following strict protocols under the NDPS Act and Arms Act, the police have formally registered a case and initiated an intensive investigation to trace the supply chain and potential linkages associated with this seizure.
This recovery stands as one of the most significant in recent months, highlighting a dangerous nexus between drug trafficking and illegal weaponry that the Jammu Police is determined to crush,” Superintendent of Police Headquarters said.
“This operation reflects the ironclad resolve of the Jammu Police zone headquarters to eradicate the drug menace and uphold the sanctity of public safety. A stern warning is issued to all anti-social elements – there is zero room for drug peddling or illegal arms in our society, and the law will act with maximum severity. The police urge the citizens of Jammu and Kashmir to continue their proactive support by sharing information regarding suspicious activities. Together, under the banner of a drug-free J&K, we will safeguard our youth and ensure a secure future for all,” SP Hqs Sinha stated.
In a separate operation causing a major blow to the local narcotics trade, she informed that the Police in Jammu intercepted and foiled a significant drug distribution attempt at village Chak Chua in Bishnah.
“On April 21, 2026, due to the anniversary of Pahalgam massacre, a special naka was established and during specialised naka operation, a team from Police Station Bishnah intercepted a Thar car, bearing registration number JK02DJ-9906. Upon a meticulous search, the team recovered 16 grams of heroin (Chitta), Rs 25,410 in cash suspected to be drug proceeds, 6 mobile phones and a weighing machine,” SP Headquarters said.
According to SP Sinha, the occupants of the car – Lovely Singh Manhas alias Kalu, resident of Kothi Morh, a known criminal, against whom cases of abduction, attempt to murder were already registered and Sarwan Kumar, resident of R S Pura, were apprehended on the spot after they failed to account for the contraband, which was clearly packaged for illicit sale.
A formal case FIR No 66/2026 U/S 8/21/22/25/29 NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Bishnah and a high-level investigation was currently underway to dismantle the “forward and backward” linkages of the syndicate, she said.
“The seizure of multiple mobile phones is a critical lead, as digital forensics will be used to track the supply chain and identify the kingpins behind this operation. This crackdown is part of a broader, intensified offensive by the Jammu Police zone headquarter to purge the region of narcotics and ensure that those who attempt to profit from the destruction of our youth face the maximum penalties under the law,” SP Sinha added.
