SRINAGAR: Police in Jammu and Kashmir seized 15 vehicles involved in alleged illegal extraction and transportation of minerals during separate operations in Shopian and Awantipora, officials said on Sunday.

In Shopian district, police seized 10 tractors and two tippers from Imamsahib and Keegam areas during routine patrolling. Officials said a team from Police Station Imamsahib intercepted seven tractors and two tippers at different locations for alleged extraction and transportation of minerals without valid royalty documents. In a separate action, personnel from Police Post Keegam seized three tractors for alleged involvement in illegal mineral extraction and transport without permission.

In Awantipora, police said a team from Police Station Pampore detected illegal soil extraction activity during patrolling and seized two excavators (JCB machines) and one dumper vehicle allegedly involved in the activity.

Police said cases have been registered under relevant legal provisions at the concerned police stations and investigations have been initiated.

Authorities reiterated their commitment to action against illegal mining and urged the public to report such activities, assuring confidentiality of informants.
