Police Arrest Seven Drug Peddlers in Valley, Seize Contraband | Kashmir Life

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday said they have arrested seven drug peddlers in separate operations across the Valley and recovered substantial quantities of contraband substances, including charas and ganja.

In Anantnag district, police achieved a major breakthrough in their anti-narcotics drive with multiple recoveries and arrests. Acting on specific inputs, a police party from Police Station Srigufwara intercepted an Alto vehicle (JK01W-7328) at Shalgam Crossing and recovered around 110 kg of ganja. The driver, identified as Nazir Ahmad Khatana, a resident of Gujar Basti Shalgam, was arrested on the spot.

In a separate operation, Police Post Dialgam, acting on credible information and a court-issued search warrant, recovered approximately 51 kg of a charas-like substance from the residence of Mohammad Rafiq Itoo of Watrigam Dialgam.

Police Station Srigufwara further arrested Rayees Ahmad Shah of Wullarhama during naka checking at Sakhras Crossing, with around 5 kg of charas powder recovered from his possession. In another case in Bijbehara, police apprehended a drug peddler at Doodnad Waghama and seized 170 grams of charas-like substance along with Rs 18,700 in cash.

In Handwara, police intercepted Gh Hassan Khan of Maidan Chogul after he attempted to flee upon spotting a police party. A quantity of charas-like substance was recovered from him.

In Baramulla, Police Post Palhalan arrested Manzoor Ahmad Lone of Yedipora during naka checking near Ghat Palhalan railway underpass, recovering around 150 grams of charas-like contraband.

In Shopian, police detained Jumeer Ahmad Mir of Pirpora Keegam at Tul Bagh Haji Check Crossing with 144 grams of charas-like substance.

All the accused have been arrested and cases under relevant sections of law have been registered. Investigations are underway to identify forward and backward linkages in the drug network.

Police said the operations are part of the ongoing “Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyaan”, aimed at curbing the drug menace and building a drug-free society.
