It’s a millennial success for the Indian nationhood . Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah made it possible . BJP swept polls in West Bengal in the most unimaginable way. This is not to undermine the party’s success in other states , where it did exceedingly well , but winning 207 out of 293 for which the counting was held in West Bengal on Monday is simply dazzling in political terms against the backdrop that not long ago it was considered out o bounds state for the saffron party.

Political pundits are busy in decoding the strategies behind the election campaign that made BJP to post such a stunning poll victory , particularly in West Bengal . They are right in attributing it to the hard work of party workers on the ground , and the widespread mantra of double-engine governments in most of the states where BJP is in power , from Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan , Madhya Pradesh , Assam , Goa et al. .That being true , but there are other equally critical factors that brought about such a big day for BJP.

There is a larger periscope through which this poll victory should be figured out. Prime Minister credited “ people’s power “ for the victory. This power did not come about in a vacuum ., a lot of effort has gone into it. , It surfaced because of multilateral factors – the overall atmospherics and change in the political discourse in the past over 10-12 years – there is a special connect with the peoples at all levels , which started with construction of toilets in all girls’ schools across the country – it was dignity conferred on the girls everywhere , besides a commitment to make India clean . India emerged on the world scene as a nation in continued pursuit of excellence within and on the global scene . This brought self-confidence to all Indians which they had not experienced before .

This was not viewed through the similar prism by some forces within the country . They were regional satraps . They thought that any value addition to the Indian nationalism and its universalism undermines their positions . They invented their own narratives . West Bengal was fed on this narrative for long by TMC and its leadership under Mamta Banerjee . The people were awakened to the new reality of new and people-friendly style of governance in many parts of the country , where masses came out of the shadows of the vote bank politics driven by the policy of appeasement . West Bengal learnt this and , in 2026 polls , it did what it did – liberating itself from the exploitation .

It was a manifestation of their resolve to conquer their political illiteracy , in part with the help of what they were watching elsewhere in the country and also because they saw there was a credible leadership willing to do the handholding . This was a switchback on their path to political literacy of development , dignity in the nationalism of commitment .That shaped their quest.

Prime Minister Modi’s policies and rich oratory captured the moment for the party . It has sent a spine-chilling message to the regional parties living in a self-belief that their bastions were impenetrable . Their fortresses have not only been breached , but demolished . This is not just the demolition of the politics of regional enclaves but setting in motion the new and vibrant policy of guarding the nation against the internal and external threats .Infiltration is in itself dangerous – for the infiltrators are not Indians and they have no loyalty to the nation where they enter in search of greener pastures . At the same time when they become part of the vote bank politics , they intrude into the system and guide policies . Such intrusions are as dangerous for the national unity and security as the terrorists infiltrating with arms and ammunition .

The infiltrators overwhelm the system and the natives become helpless in front of them. Jammu and Kashmir has experienced all this. Armed terrorists played havoc with the system in the sensitive state and the whole nation had to pay consequences. They almost toppled the system before they were neutralized in the manner they deserved in the Modi era. Prime Minister Modi’s policy of “ zero-tolerance to terrorism” has brought both qualitative and quantities change in the situation .

It is here where the real success lays .Once the infiltrators , their facilitators and sympathizers are neutralized , the power flows to the people .Home Minister Amit Shah delivered a very strong message for the infiltrators and all those goons who disturbed law and order in the eastern state . This inspired confidence among people to vote without fear. That was reflected in the record breaking voting – over 90 per cent- in West Bengal .

The very hope that BJP will neutralize all the external elements, and weed them out of the internal system, the people gained the confidence to vote for nationalistic party and the government that would be sworn West Bengal soon
