SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday paid tribute to organ donors and their families at ‘Naman Diwas’, describing them as “true role models” whose selfless acts have brought hope and life to countless people.

Addressing a gathering of families of cornea and kidney donors, the Lieutenant Governor said no award can adequately recognise the value of organ donation. “Because of you, someone can read today. Because of you, someone is seeing the colours of the world for the very first time. Because of you, someone is experiencing hope, freedom, and joy anew,” he said.

Emphasising the significance of donation, he noted that the greatest measure of life lies not in what one accumulates but in what one gives. He described organ donors as individuals who have offered “the most precious gift of all — the gift that sustains life itself.”

Calling organ donation one of the noblest acts, the Lieutenant Governor urged citizens to pledge to donation, stating that every individual has the potential to save lives even after death. He also addressed concerns related to cultural and religious beliefs, asserting that traditions across faiths uphold the sanctity of life and the virtue of selfless giving.

The Lieutenant Governor commended the efforts of the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation of Jammu and Kashmir for promoting awareness and building a culture of organ donation in the region. He noted that through campaigns, hospital partnerships, and training of medical professionals, the organisation has strengthened identification and management of donor cases.

He urged the organisation to expand outreach through schools, colleges, workplaces, and community platforms to increase registrations and pledges. Sinha also highlighted that he had personally pledged for organ donation last year through the national registry.

The event concluded with a renewed appeal for greater public participation, with officials stressing that organ donation remains a powerful expression of compassion capable of restoring life, dignity, and hope to those in need.
