SRINAGAR: Contractual workers at the Salal Hydroelectric Project of NHPC in Reasi have continued their strike for the 12th consecutive day, alleging that the management has remained unresponsive to their demands.
The protesting workers said they have been raising issues related to regularisation of services and revision of wages, but no concrete steps have been taken so far.
They alleged that contractual employees are handling a significant portion of operations at NHPC projects due to the lack of fresh permanent appointments, and said their contributions have not been adequately recognized.
“Contractual staff are managing most of the work, yet our concerns are being ignored,” one of the protesting workers said.
The workers warned that the agitation could be expanded to other NHPC projects across Jammu and Kashmir if their demands are not addressed.
They said similar protests were earlier held at the Dulhasti Hydroelectric Project, and the current strike at Salal is part of a broader effort to press for their demands.
The protesters have sought regularization of services and a pay hike, and urged the government to intervene and resolve the issue without further delay. [KNT]
