SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday called for a united mass movement against drug abuse in Jammu and Kashmir, urging citizens to join hands to protect the youth, strengthen families and secure the region’s future under the Nasha-Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyan.
Addressing a large gathering in Udhampur after participating in a padyatra alongside thousands of residents, the Lieutenant Governor said the fight against narcotics must go beyond government efforts and become a collective social responsibility.
He said Jammu and Kashmir was rising with renewed determination to defeat the drug menace and stressed that every village, town and household must act as a stronghold against substance abuse.
Mr Sinha called upon citizens to treat the campaign as a shared war, emphasising that awareness, compassion, rehabilitation and active public participation would be crucial in ensuring a narcotics-free society.
He said the next 83 days would be vital in transforming public perception, promoting accountability and supporting individuals affected by addiction through rehabilitation rather than social stigma.
The Lieutenant Governor also highlighted the critical role of women and youth in spearheading the anti-drug movement and said awareness programmes must educate families about the signs and dangers of drug addiction.
During the event, Sinha flagged off an anti-drug awareness bike rally, launched Mini-Olympics under the Nasha Mukt JK Campaign, distributed sanction letters to rehabilitated individuals, and honoured winners of the Nasha Mukt Ideas Championship.
