SRINAGAR: Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday warned that the Union Territory is staring at multiple crisis — from jobless youth to families left without incomes — as she listed a string of grievances including closure of religious schools, backdoor appointments, and administrative changes in the Revenue Department.

Addressing a gathering here, Mehbooba Mufti apointed to the closure of Siraj-ul-Uloom and earlier action at Madina-ul-Uloom, asserting that the moves had caused deep anxiety among religious scholars and the public.

She also flagged the replacement of manual labour with machines, saying families dependent on local work had lost their livelihoods. “This has resulted in a complete loss of income,” she said.

Alleging irregularities in recruitment, the PDP chief claimed jobs were being given through backdoor channels. “Relatives and influential individuals are preferred while others are excluded. Youth are not getting jobs despite having the required qualifications,” she said.

The former chief minister also spoke about changes in the Revenue Department, stating that while Urdu was earlier part of official work, recent language requirements had created confusion among people.

She called for immediate steps to ensure transparent recruitment, protect local livelihoods, and address public concerns on a priority basis. (KNS)
