Heatwave alert for 5 Jammu districts

The plain areas of Jammu, during the past couple of days have seen mercury spiralling up with several areas facing heat-wave like condition.

Director Meteorological Department Mukhtar Ahmed stated, “Jammu region’s hill stations, Katra in Reasi and adjoining areas in Udhampur have been facing gruelling summer heat for the past few days. The hot and dry weather will continue in Jammu and adjoining areas. Besides, the heat wave may be experienced in the isolated pockets of Samba, Kathua, Reasi and Udhampur. The trend may persist during the next four days.”

On Sunday, April 26, 2026, Jammu recorded the maximum temperature of 39.4 degrees Celsius while on Saturday, it registered 40.2 degrees Celsius, five-seven notches above the normal.

Amid persisting hot and dry weather conditions, people have been advised to avoid venturing out during peak noon hours to avoid direct heat. They have also been asked to increase intake of water and other traditional drinks like Lassi, lemon water etc., besides ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution) to prevent dehydration and other heat-related ailments.
