Srinagar: Srinagar Police has registered a case against certain individuals for allegedly circulating secessionist propaganda and misleading content on digital platforms, police said on Thursday.
According to a police statement issued here, the action was initiated following credible inputs about the dissemination of videos on social media aimed at promoting separatist ideology and spreading false information with the intent to incite unlawful activities prejudicial to the peace, sovereignty and integrity of the country.
The statement said a preliminary enquiry has indicated that the circulation of such material was a deliberate attempt to propagate secessionist narratives through online platforms. It added that such activities have the potential to incite public disaffection, disturb public order and undermine national integration.
Police said that, prima facie, the material discloses the commission of cognisable offences under Sections 152, 196(1) and 353(1)(b), (c) and (2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
“Accordingly, FIR No. 11/2026 has been registered at Cyber Police Station Srinagar and investigation has been taken up,” the statement said.
The police have advised the public to refrain from creating, sharing or circulating unlawful content on social media and other digital platforms.
“Any individual found involved in such activities will be dealt with strictly in accordance with law,” the statement added.
