SRINAGAR: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of the Crime Branch JK has filed a chargesheet in a fraud case involving alleged false promises of land allotment and government jobs.
Officials said the chargesheet in FIR No. 84/2022 under Section 420 RPC has been submitted before the Court of Judge Small Causes, Srinagar, against Bashir Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Gani Bhat, a resident of Astanpora Tailbal, Hazratbal, Srinagar.
According to details, the accused allegedly cheated several complainants in January 2019 by taking a substantial amount of money on the assurance of arranging Jammu Development Authority (JDA) land in Jammu and securing government jobs for their relatives. However, he allegedly failed to fulfil either commitment.
Following complaints, the EOW Kashmir initiated an investigation, which concluded that the accused had deliberately deceived the victims and dishonestly obtained money on the basis of false assurances. The probe established the offence of cheating under Section 420 RPC.
Based on the evidence collected, the chargesheet has been filed before the competent court for further judicial proceedings.
Meanwhile, the Crime Branch has urged the public to remain vigilant against economic fraud and report such incidents to the SSP EOW Kashmir, Shri Abdul Waheed Shah, or via email at [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]).
