SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday said that drugs and terrorism are linked in Jammu and Kashmir, stating that investigations have indicated connections between narcotics smuggling networks and terror-related organisations operating in the region.
Addressing a programme on the drug-free Jammu and Kashmir campaign, the Lieutenant Governor said investigative findings have pointed to the involvement of actors across the border in facilitating drug trafficking, which he said is used to fund terrorism and related activities.
He said proceeds from narcotics trade are being used for multiple purposes, including recruitment, procurement of arms, and activities linked to radicalisation in Jammu and Kashmir and other parts of the country.
Sinha said the administration’s priority is to protect young people from drug abuse, adding that efforts are being made to counter what he described as attempts to negatively impact the youth and hinder development in the Union Territory.
He called for coordinated efforts from all sections of society to address drug abuse and strengthen preventive measures among the youth.
