Srinagar, May 18: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch Kashmir on Monday said it has filed a chargesheet against a retired In-Charge Superintendent Engineer of the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development Corporation in connection with an alleged forgery and destruction of official records case.
According to a statement issued here, the chargesheet was presented before the Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate Srinagar in FIR No. 09/2015 registered under Sections 420, 467, 468, 471 and 201 of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC).
The Crime Branch said the case was initiated following a written complaint alleging manipulation of the accused officer’s date of birth in official service records. Subsequently, an investigation was launched by the then Police Station Crime Branch Kashmir, now functioning as the Economic Offences Wing Kashmir.
During the probe, investigators found that the accused had allegedly altered his date of birth in service records from October 28, 1955 to October 28, 1958 to obtain undue service benefits. The allegations were substantiated through forensic examination conducted by the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) Srinagar and verification reports from the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (BOSE), the statement said.
The investigation further revealed that the accused had allegedly destroyed his original service book in an attempt to conceal evidence, leading to the addition of Section 201 RPC pertaining to destruction of evidence.
“The investigation in the instant case was concluded as proved against him, and accordingly the chargesheet was submitted before the court of law for judicial determination,” the statement added.
The Crime Branch also advised the public to remain vigilant against economic fraud and report such cases to the Senior Superintendent of Police, EOW Kashmir. Complaints may also be submitted through the official email ID, the statement said.
