Srinagar, May 24: Team Captains 18 emerged as winners of the WHS Sports Hub Golf Cup 2026, while Soaring Eagles finished runners-up as the two-day golfing event concluded at the scenic Royal Springs Golf Course on Sunday.
The tournament witnessed an overwhelming response with around 100 top golfers participating in the event, which was organised by WHS Sports Hub.
Member of Parliament from National Conference Shammi Oberoi and Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani were the chief guests at the closing ceremony and distributed medals, prizes and the winning trophy among the participating teams.
The event brought together golfers from cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Chandigarh and Rajasthan, with participants competing in a unique team format featuring six-member teams.
Organisers said the tournament aimed to promote golf tourism in Jammu and Kashmir while also strengthening the sporting ecosystem in the region.
Over the two days, golfers played amid pleasant weather conditions at Royal Springs, one of Asia’s most picturesque golf courses, attracting both seasoned players and young enthusiasts.
The event also witnessed participation from prominent businesspersons, veteran golfers and sports promoters, making it one of the major golfing gatherings hosted in Kashmir this season.
Golfers who participated in the tournament expressed their desire to return for future editions, describing the experience of playing in Kashmir as unique and memorable. Many participants praised the scenic beauty, weather conditions and hospitality during the two-day event and said they would look forward to being part of the tournament again whenever it is organised in the future.
Earlier at the inaugural event, advisor to CM Nasir Aslam Wani, while speaking to Greater Kashmir, called the tournament an important initiative for golf promotion. Wani said such events help revive sporting activities and simultaneously boost tourism in Jammu and Kashmir.
“This has now become an annual feature. We are trying to bring golfing activities back on track. We are having tournaments in Srinagar and Pahalgam and are also trying to organise one in Gulmarg. These events help us in two ways — promoting golf in Jammu and Kashmir and supporting tourism,” Wani had said.
The Advisor said the government was keen to widen sports participation and expose youngsters to different sporting disciplines beyond cricket.
“We are trying to establish a golf academy here where younger children from schools can be trained and camps can be organised so that they are attracted towards the sport. Golf is a game that can also get us national and international recognition,” he had said.
Advisor to CM had further said, “The government, under the leadership of the Chief Minister, wants sports activities to spread across the length and breadth of Jammu and Kashmir. Infrastructure will be developed at district, tehsil and block levels so that children get opportunities to compete at national levels as well.”
