Cabinet Clears Mega Coal Gasification Plan | Jobs, Power & Fertilizer Boost

The government has approved a massive coal gasification scheme to reduce India’s dependence on imported gas and boost energy self-reliance. The project will convert coal into syngas, which can be used for power generation, fertilizers, LPG alternatives and petrochemicals. The total outlay for the scheme is ₹37,500 crore, while overall investments could touch ₹3 lakh crore. Around 25 projects are expected to come up, creating nearly 50,000 jobs. The government says India has enough coal reserves for hundreds of years, and this move will help reduce imports of LNG, ammonia, methanol and fertilizers. The project is also expected to generate annual revenue of around ₹6,300 crore. The decision comes at a time when global geopolitical tensions are raising concerns over energy security and imports.
