SRINAGAR: Residents of Shigan Mohalla in the Batamaloo area of Srinagar on Monday held a protest over the alleged acute shortage of drinking water in the locality, seeking immediate intervention from the authorities to address the issue.

The protesters said the area has been grappling with severe water scarcity for the past several days, causing significant hardship to residents, especially women, children and the elderly. Chanting slogans against the concerned department, the demonstrators alleged that the authorities had failed to ensure regular water supply despite repeated appeals.

According to residents, the prolonged shortage has badly affected daily life, compelling many households to arrange water through private sources. They appealed to the administration and the Jal Shakti Department to take urgent steps to restore adequate water supply in the locality.

One woman protester alleged that the water supply to the area had remained suspended for the past four months. “We do not want jobs, money or anything else from the government. We only want the water supply to our area to be restored,” she said.

The protesters warned that they would intensify their agitation in the coming days if their grievance was not resolved at the earliest.
