Srinagar, Apr 25: The Awami Itihaad Party (AIP) on Saturday held an emergency Executive Council meeting following the rejection of interim bail to Member of Parliament Engineer Rashid by the National Investigation Agency court at Patiala House Court.
The meeting was attended by party general secretaries Nazir Ahmad Khan and Prince Parveez, chief spokesperson Inam Un Nabi, state secretary Sheikh Ashiq, spokesperson Firdouse Baba, and senior leaders including Advocate Javeed Hubbi, Parveez Ahmad Bhat and Nazir Ahmad Mir.
Party leaders discussed the court’s decision in detail and voiced concern over the denial of interim relief, citing the critical condition of Rashid’s father, who is on ventilator support at SMHS Hospital. They stressed the need for a humane approach in such circumstances.
The Executive Council expressed hope over the hearing on the regular bail plea listed before the Delhi High Court on April 27, stating that the judicial process should reflect fairness and compassion.
AIP leaders also urged authorities to consider Rashid’s position as a sitting MP from Baramulla, a constituency comprising 18 assembly segments and a substantial share of Kashmir’s population. They said democratic institutions must remain responsive to public representation, particularly during situations involving personal distress.
Reiterating their demand for his release, the party expressed cautious optimism ahead of the next hearing and appealed for public support.
