Shopian: In an ongoing crackdown against elements associated with proscribed organisations Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) and Hurriyat (G), both banned under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), Shopian Police on Tuesday conducted searches at multiple locations across the district.
According to officials, the operations were carried out in connection with various FIRs registered at local police stations.
A search was conducted at the residence of Abdul Latief Dar, son of Abdul Gani Dar, a resident of Dar Mohalla Zawoora, who has previously been affiliated with Hurriyat (G), in connection with FIR No. 09/2024 registered at Police Station Shopian.
In Zainapora, searches were conducted at the residence of Bilal Ahmad Itoo, son of Ghulam Rasool, resident of Chitragam, who has remained associated with the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), in connection with FIR Nos. 98/2021 and 03/2024 registered at Police Station Zainapora.
Similarly, in Imamsahib, police searched the residence of Ghulam Mohammad Dar, son of Asadullah Dar, a resident of Check Sangran, who has been linked to Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), in connection with FIR No. 336/1997 registered at Police Station Shopian.
Police said the searches were conducted after obtaining due legal sanction and were aimed at unearthing any incriminating material, documents, electronic devices, or other evidence indicating continued unlawful activities or association with banned outfits.
“Shopian Police remains committed to dismantling the support networks of proscribed organisations and to maintaining peace, security, and the rule of law in the district,” a police spokesperson said.
