SRINAGAR: The Government of Jammu and Kashmir’s Department of Tribal Affairs on Wednesday ordered the constitution of a fact-finding committee to inquire into alleged violations of the Forest Rights Act, 2006, in connection with the recent demolition of houses belonging to tribal families in Raika Bandi (Sidhra), Jammu.

As per Government Order No. 18-JK (TAD) of 2026, issued on 20 May 2026, the committee will examine the matter and submit its report within seven days from the date of issuance of the order.

The panel comprises Mohammad Mumtaz Ali, JKAS, Director, Tribal Affairs Department, and Muzamil Hassan Choudhary, JKAS, Assistant Director, Directorate of Tribal Affairs.

The committee has been tasked with assessing compliance with provisions of the Forest Rights Act in relation to the demolition exercise.
