Srinagar: The Ganderbal Police have booked a notorious fraudster for impersonating high-ranking government officials and defrauding people under the pretext of providing jobs. The accused, identified as Illyas Hameed Bhat, son of Abdul Hameed Bhat, a resident of Bakura, Ganderbal, has been charged under FIR No. 136/2025 U/s 318 BNS at Police Station Ganderbal.
Investigations, as per an official according to Alfaaz – The Words, revealed that Bhat posed at different times as a DySP with the National Investigation Agency (NIA), an administrator at Kashmir University, and even a senior officer in the Enforcement Directorate. Following a court-issued warrant, police conducted a search at his residence and seized incriminating material, including fake appointment orders and forged identity cards.
Notably, Bhat already faces an earlier FIR registered at Police Station Nishat, Srinagar, for similar offenses.
