Kupwara: The 23rd death anniversary of Mushtaq Ahmad Lone, former Minister for Home, Law and Parliamentary Affairs, and a senior leader of the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference (JKNC), was observed with solemnity at his native village Sogam in Lolab on Thursday.
A large gathering of party workers, supporters, and local residents assembled at his graveyard, where special prayers and Fateh Khawani were offered. Floral tributes were laid in his memory by senior political figures, including Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, MLA Lolab Qaiser Jamsheed Lone, and DDC Sogam Nasir Nazir Lone, who remembered him as a courageous leader who stood firm during turbulent times in the region.
Speaking on the occasion, Nasir Aslam Wani hailed Lone as a visionary leader whose sacrifice symbolized resilience and commitment. “This family has borne immense pain, losing not just Mushtaq Sahib but also his brother in the service of the people. Their sacrifices will forever remain a guiding light,” he said as per Alfaaz – The Words.
MLA Lolab Qaiser Jamsheed Lone underlined the National Conference’s historical role in defending the rights of the people. “The martyrdom of Mushtaq Sahib is a testament to the NC’s unwavering commitment. His legacy is deeply interwoven with the struggle and aspirations of the people of Kashmir,” he stated.
The event concluded with renewed pledges from party cadres to uphold Lone’s ideals and carry forward his mission of service, justice, and peace for the people of Jammu & Kashmir.
Adding to the tributes, JKNC President Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Vice President and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in the meantime issued statements saluting Lone’s service and sacrifice.
Dr. Farooq Abdullah described him as “a man of the masses whose life embodied selflessness.” He emphasized that Lone’s dedication and ultimate sacrifice continue to inspire generations. “Despite the dark times that followed his tragic assassination, we found strength in his legacy, which motivates us to carry forward his vision for a peaceful and democratic future,” he noted.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah echoed the sentiment, highlighting the larger significance of Lone’s martyrdom. “His assassination is a stark reminder of the immense sacrifices made by the National Conference in safeguarding democracy and restoring normalcy in Jammu & Kashmir. Mushtaq Sahib’s role in empowering people and fostering progress will never be forgotten,” he said.
