SRINAGAR: Commissioner of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Dr Devansh Yadav, has issued an urgent public advisory urging residents to adopt strict health precautions as flood-hit areas of Jammu remain highly susceptible to outbreaks of waterborne and vector-borne diseases.
In light of recent floods affecting several areas under Jammu Municipal Corporation and district limits, Dr Yadav warned that contaminated drinking water poses a serious threat to public health, potentially leading to stomach infections, diarrhoea, fever, and headaches. Additionally, stagnant water has raised the risk of mosquito-borne illnesses such as dengue and chikungunya.
Dr Yadav advised residents to boil drinking water for at least ten minutes and use chlorine tablets where available, ensuring the water is left to settle for at least half an hour before use. Citizens were also instructed to clear rooftops, courtyards, and drains of stagnant water to prevent mosquito breeding.
The Health Department has activated the 104 helpline to provide health-related assistance, while the JMC has intensified fogging and anti-larval spraying operations across all wards.
Residents whose areas have not yet received fogging services are encouraged to register their locality and ward number through the JMC helpline to prioritise coverage.
“The health and well-being of our citizens is our top priority,” Dr Yadav said, adding that coordinated efforts by sanitation teams, health workers, and support staff are ongoing. He stressed that public cooperation is essential in preventing disease outbreaks and maintaining a healthy environment during the recovery period.
