
Srinagar, Aug 25: Senior BJP leader and DDC member Er Aijaz Hussain inaugurated a T20 cricket tournament at Government Degree College Bemina, urging students and players to balance sports with academics while highlighting sports as a means to engage youth positively and steer them away from drugs.
As per a statement issued, the event was being organised by Mosman Cricket Club, led by Gouher Khan and Suhail Qureshi, with 32 teams from across the valley competing to showcase their talent and sportsmanship.
On the occasion, DySP West Masjid Mehboob attended as the guest of honour. Inayat Hussain, Physical Director of GDC Bemina, and Showkat Hussain, Physical Teacher, were also present, extending their encouragement to the young players.
Er Aijaz Hussain congratulated the organisers, interacted with the participating teams, and held an interactive session with the students of GDC Bemina, inspiring them to excel in both academics and sports. He remarked:
“The government is making every effort to establish best practices in sports. You all are the future of Jammu & Kashmir. Sports keep our youth positively engaged and protect them from the menace of drugs,” he said.
To honour his presence, the organisers presented Er Aijaz Hussain with a memento. The tournament’s opening witnessed an enthusiastic turnout, reflecting the growing passion for cricket in Kashmir and the positive impact of such initiatives in fostering teamwork, discipline, and healthy competition.
