Srinagar: Ganderbal Police has issued a strong rebuttal after a fake photograph of an innocent girl, who is a ‘well-known journalist’, was circulated on social media, wrongly portraying her as the accused in the recent Sehpora murder case.
In a media statement, police clarified that the photograph being shared is “baseless, fabricated and has no connection whatsoever with the incident”, and stressed that such actions are not only misleading and defamatory but also constitute a serious criminal offence.
“The circulation of fake, unverified and malicious content on social media platforms creates panic, harms the reputation of innocent individuals, and obstructs fair investigation,” the statement reads as per Alfaaz – The Words.
Police have appealed to the public and social media users to exercise restraint and refrain from spreading rumours or unverified content. They further warned that strict legal action will be initiated against those found responsible for creating, uploading, or circulating fake images.
District Police Ganderbal in the meantime reiterated its commitment to ensuring justice in the Sehpora murder case and urged cooperation from the public in maintaining peace and supporting the investigative process.
