SRINAGAR: MLA Pulwama and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Waheed ur Rehman Para has criticised the Omar Abdullah-led government for delaying the clearance of hundreds of pending compassionate appointment cases in Jammu and Kashmir.

“Why are 928 SRO-43 cases and 1,279 RAS cases for compassionate appointments still gathering dust in the Chief Minister’s General Administration Department?” Para asked, accusing the government of neglecting families who have lost their sole breadwinners.

Drawing a comparison with a recent move by JK Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Para noted that the LG had used special powers to appoint hundreds of victims of terror. “Under existing provisions, the Chief Minister also has the authority to relax rules and clear these cases,” he said, adding that the files represented “stories of survival, not just paperwork.”

Para stressed that every day of inaction prolongs the suffering of bereaved families, many of whom lack resources, connections, or the ability to navigate a slow and complex bureaucracy. “Compassionate appointments were meant to deliver dignity and survival, not to be buried under procedural delays and technical excuses,” he said.

In a post on X, Para said

“Why are 928 SRO-43 cases and 1,279 RAS cases for compassionate appointments still gathering dust in the @CM JK’s General Administration Department? These are not just files—they are the stories of families who have lost their sole breadwinner and now face an uncertain, desperate future. Under existing provisions, the Chief Minister @OmarAbdullah has the authority to relax rules and clear these cases, just as the @OfficeOfLGJandK recently used special powers to appoint hundreds of victims of terror.”

He further warned that continued inaction “weakens the authority of the elected office, allowing unelected bureaucrats to overshadow JK’s democratic institutions.” Concluding his post, he urged: “It is time to act @OmarAbdullah.”
