SRINAGAR: The government on Monday agreed to hold a 16-hour discussion in the Lok Sabha on Operation Sindoor and the Pahalgam terror attack, with the debate expected to take place next week. However, the opposition demanded that the discussion be held this week and insisted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi respond.
According to media reports, during the meeting of the Business Advisory Committee, government representatives informed members that the Prime Minister would be travelling abroad this week, and therefore, a debate in his presence could only be scheduled for next week.
Opposition members objected to the government’s agenda for this week, which did not include the proposed discussion. They also demanded the presence of the home minister and the defence minister during the debate.
Some opposition leaders further called for separate discussions on the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar and the ongoing situation in Manipur.
The Monsoon Session of Parliament began on Monday.
