SRINAGAR: The District administration of Rajouri has sealed five springs after two people lost their lives in the district of Jammu and Kashmir last week due to Gastroenteritis and Diarrhoea.
The outbreak prompted authorities to seal five springs in Dhar Sakri after tests revealed E-Coli contamination in two of them.
According to a news story carried by Daily Excelsior, two women aged 75 and 40 breathed their last past week promoting authorities to seal these spirings.
Chief Medical Officer Rajouri, Dr Manohar Lal Rana, said 40 cases were reported from Sakri and one from Tralla in the past five days.
Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Sharma visited the affected areas, mobilising medical teams and water testing units. Water samples from springs and a nearby tap were collected; while the tap water was deemed safe, five springs were sealed and treated.
Officials added that awareness campaigns are underway to educate locals about the health risks of unsafe water. A safe water supply is being ensured for the affected villages.
Meanwhile, the district administration has issued a public advisory urging residents to avoid untreated spring water and only consume safe, treated water.
