Jammu, June, 29: As a part of ongoing efforts to enhance green cover and to promote ecological balance, a Plantation Drive was organized on 29.06.2025 by JKAP-8th Battalion Miran Sahib Jammu in collaboration with the Social Forestry Department at Ghu Manhasan, Marh, District Jammu under the over all supervision of Sh. Suram Singh-JKPS(SSP) Commandant JKAP-8th Bn.
In the said initiative over 1000 saplings of various native and environment-friendly species were selected for their resilience and ecological benefits. Officers and staff from both departments, actively participated in the said drive.
Speaking on the occasion, Sh. Suram Singh-JKPS(SSP) highlighted the significance of community involvement in forest conservation efforts. He said that this collaboration with the Social Forestry Department is a vital step toward restoring the natural environment and mitigating the impacts of climate change. Besides the other benefits the aim of said plantation is also to prevent the soil erosion and to protect the land from the adverse affects of flood, during the coming rainy season, despite increase in he beauty of area adjoining to back of the Tawi river.
The Social Forestry Department provided technical support, saplings, and expert guidance for the drive, ensuring scientific planning and plantation of the species suitable for the region.
Said green initiative aims not only to improve the local environment but also to raise awareness among the public about the critical role trees play in maintaining ecological balance. During the drive 300 souls of JKAP8th Battalion participated despite the number of personnel of the social forestry team including the officers of Social forestry department, for this noble cause the team was headed by Sh. Majid Sofi (Range officer).
