SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday chaired an all-party meeting at Raj Bhawan, Srinagar, to review the preparations and security arrangements for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra.
Lieutenant Governor briefed political leaders on the arrangements made to ensure the smooth and safe conduct of the pilgrimage, scheduled to begin on July 3.
The meeting was attended by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, People’s Conference chairman Sajad Gani Lone, Apni Party president Altaf Bukhari, PDP leader Iltija Mufti, CPI(M) leader M.Y. Tarigami, and senior representatives from other political parties.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and senior political leaders reiterated their support for the Amarnath Yatra and assured full cooperation for its conduct.
The leaders said the annual pilgrimage is part of Jammu and Kashmir’s cultural framework and also plays an important role in the local economy. They stressed that ensuring its smooth conduct is a shared responsibility.
The leaders also appealed to the people of Jammu and Kashmir to receive the visiting devotees and contribute as stakeholders in the Yatra process.
Referring to the recent Pahalgam attack, they said the response from the public across the political spectrum sent a clear message that violence is not acceptable in the region.
During the meeting, leaders were apprised of the multi-layered security measures, logistical arrangements, and essential services deployed across the Yatra route.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Apni Party chief Altaf Bukhari said, “All parties expressed a shared commitment to ensuring the peaceful conduct of the Yatra. We also urged the LG to ensure that local residents face minimal inconvenience during the Yatra period.”
Earlier in the day, LG Sinha addressed a press conference at Raj Bhawan, highlighting the broader security and administrative preparedness for the 52-day-long pilgrimage.
