Srinagar, Jun 10: Police have disengaged a Special Police Officer (SPO) from service in Baramulla following his alleged involvement in a case registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
According to a statement issued by the police, the action was taken after the SPO was found involved in an NDPS case registered at Police Station Kunzer.
The disengaged SPO has been identified as Khalid Nazir Khan (3098/SPO), a resident of Katipora, Tangmarg.
The statement said that on April 23, 2026, a police team from Police Station Kunzer intercepted an Alto vehicle during a naka checking operation at Wussan Crossing. The vehicle’s occupants, including the SPO, were found in suspicious circumstances.
During the search, police recovered syringes and needles from the occupants, while silver foil paper allegedly used for the consumption of narcotic substances was recovered from the vehicle, the statement said.
Subsequently, FIR No. 46/2026 under Sections 8, 27 and 29 of the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Kunzer.
“In view of the serious involvement and conduct unbecoming of a member of a disciplined force, the SPO has been disengaged from service with immediate effect,” the statement said.
Police said the action reflects its commitment to maintaining discipline and accountability within the force.
Baramulla Police follows a zero-tolerance policy against drug abuse and misconduct and remains committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity, discipline and professional conduct within its ranks, the statement added.
