SRINAGAR: Thousands of devotees from across Jammu Kashmir and other parts gathered at Baba Nagri Wangath in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Monday to participate in the 130th annual Urs of Hazrat Mian Nizam-ud-Din Kiyanvi (RA).

Thousands of devotees gather at Baba Nagri for the annual Urs from June 6 to 8 at Baba Nagri Nagri Ganderbal

The two-day religious congregation witnessed a massive influx of pilgrims, with devotees offering special prayers for peace, prosperity, unity, brotherhood and communal harmony.

The Urs concluded with a special collective prayer led by Sajada Nasheen Darbar Baba Ji Larvi, Mian Altaf Ahmad, who called upon people to follow the teachings of Islam in their true spirit and urged the youth to stay away from social evils, particularly drug abuse.

Eyewitnesses said hundreds of vehicles carrying devotees arrived at Baba Nagri from Rajouri, Poonch, Kathua, Doda, Jammu, Udhampur, Bandipora, Anantnag and several other districts to participate in the annual event.

Throughout the Urs, night-long prayers and religious gatherings were held, while Islamic scholars and clerics highlighted the life, teachings and spiritual legacy of Hazrat Mian Nizam-ud-Din Kiyanvi (RA).

The annual Urs, observed during the first fortnight of June, is one of the major religious gatherings in Kashmir and attracts thousands of devotees from within and outside the Union Territory every year.

Meanwhile, the district administration made elaborate arrangements for security, traffic regulation, healthcare services and other essential facilities to ensure the smooth conduct of the event.
