Addressing a press conference at Dak Bungalow Baramulla, Sharma said the census plays a vital role in governance, development planning and evidence-based policymaking. He briefed media representatives about the objectives, operational framework and key features of Census 2027, and said the nationwide exercise would be carried out systematically and scientifically with the support of trained enumerators and supervisory staff.

He said the census process would include household listing as well as the collection of demographic and socio-economic data, which would help policymakers formulate welfare and development programmes based on reliable information.

Highlighting the integration of digital technology in the exercise, Sharma said several safeguards have been put in place to ensure accuracy, transparency and confidentiality of the data collected during the enumeration process.

The CPCO urged residents to extend full cooperation to census officials and provide complete and accurate information. He said dependable census data forms the foundation for effective policymaking and developmental initiatives.

Sharma also appealed to journalists and media organisations to create awareness about Census 2027 and help disseminate authentic information among the public to encourage wider participation. He informed that citizens seeking information or clarification regarding the census can contact the dedicated toll-free helpline number 1855.

The press conference was attended by Joint Principal Census Officer Arun Kumar, Assistant Chief Principal Census Officer Vijay Kumar, and District Census Officer-cum-Chief Planning Officer (Nodal Officer for Census), Baramulla.
