Srinagar Man Feared Dead While Saving Son from Drowning in Pahalgam’s Lidder River

Srinagar, May 31: A man from Srinagar is feared dead after he drowned while rescuing his son from the Lidder River in Pahalgam area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Saturday.

News agency KNC quoted officials as saying that the incident occurred near the Langanbal area when Mohammad Ashraf Mir, 42, son of Ghulam Mohiuddin Mir and a resident of Jawahar Nagar, Srinagar, was visiting Pahalgam with his family.

Reports said the family was taking photographs along the riverbank near Kolahoi Green Hotel when his son, identified as Fahad, accidentally slipped into the fast-flowing waters. Ashraf immediately jumped into the river in an attempt to save him but was swept away by the strong current.

Locals present at the spot managed to rescue the boy safely, while Ashraf went missing in the river and is feared drowned.

Following the incident, rescue teams launched a search operation in the area. Officials said personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), assisted by rafting teams and local volunteers, are conducting intensive searches to trace the missing man.
