SRINAGAR: Police in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Thursday arrested a drug peddler and recovered a quantity of contraband substance during a routine naka checking operation.

Police said a team from Police Post Sangam intercepted a person at Halmulla during checking and apprehended him on suspicion. The accused has been identified as Arif Ahmad Sheikh, son of Mohd Sulaiman Sheikh, a resident of Delhi, presently living at Sangam Juggi Tents.

During his search, police recovered 240 grams of a charas powder-like substance from his possession.

In this regard, FIR No. 126/2026 has been registered at Police Station Bijbehara under relevant sections of law, and further investigation has been initiated to trace both forward and backward linkages of the network.

Police said Anantnag Police remains committed to curbing the drug menace and urged the public to share information regarding narcotics-related activities to help build a safer and drug-free society.
