SRINAGAR: PARAS Health Srinagar has become the first private-sector hospital in Jammu and Kashmir to receive a Kidney Transplant Programme (KTP) licence, paving the way for advanced renal transplant services within the Union Territory.
The approval marks a major milestone in the region’s healthcare sector and is expected to enable patients requiring kidney transplants to access treatment within Jammu and Kashmir instead of travelling outside the Union Territory for specialised care.
Hospital authorities said the development would significantly reduce the financial and emotional burden on patients and their families by making life-saving transplant procedures available closer to home.
Facility Director Dr Murtuza described the approval as a landmark achievement for the institution and thanked the administration and regulatory agencies for their support during the licensing process, which involved extensive evaluation and scrutiny.
He said the licence reflects the hospital’s commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure in the region and maintaining high standards of clinical excellence, ethical practices and patient care.
Dr Murtuza added that PARAS Health remains focused on providing accessible and affordable healthcare services and that the introduction of kidney transplant facilities would help bridge critical gaps in tertiary healthcare services in Jammu and Kashmir.
Zonal Director of PARAS Health, Ms Seema Vij, termed the approval a landmark achievement for the PARAS Health Group and said it reflected the institution’s commitment to delivering world-class healthcare services in the region.
She also acknowledged the contribution of the medical team, particularly nephrologist Dr Aadil Baigh and urologist Dr Yasir Ahmad, for their role in strengthening healthcare delivery and ensuring quality patient care.
Medical Superintendent Dr Shafat Ahmad Kennu said the institution would continue to prioritise high-quality treatment and work towards reducing the hardships faced by patients who often have to wait long periods for transplant procedures outside the Union Territory.
Officials said the introduction of kidney transplant services at PARAS Health Srinagar is being viewed as a significant step towards expanding access to specialised and life-saving healthcare services in Jammu and Kashmir.
