
SRINAGAR: Police in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, in coordination with revenue authorities, retrieved state land worth nearly Rs 1 crore from the possession of an alleged drug peddler in the Devsar area on Wednesday.
Officials said the land, measuring 5 kanals and 12 marlas and located in Malwan village under Khasra No. 697 min, was under the illegal occupation of Shahzad Ahmad Paddar, son of Gull Mohammad Paddar, a resident of Malwan. He is reportedly involved in FIR No. 40/2020 registered under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Devsar.
The land, which includes orchards, is estimated to be worth around Rs 1 crore in the market.
The joint operation was carried out by Kulgam Police and the Revenue Department as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle illegal networks and financial assets linked to drug trafficking.
Senior Superintendent of Police Kulgam, Anayat Ali Choudhary, said action against drug peddlers will continue, adding that all illegal assets, encroachments and proceeds of crime linked to narcotics trade will be dealt with strictly under law.
Police also urged the public to share information related to drug peddling or illegal encroachments, assuring confidentiality and strict action against offenders.
