SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected recent remarks made by the National Conference (NC), terming them factually incorrect and based on a misinterpretation of the Rajya Sabha voting process.

PDP spokesperson Mohit Bhan said the appointment of polling agents is solely the responsibility of contesting candidates. He stated that the PDP did not field any candidate in the concerned Rajya Sabha election and had extended unconditional support to the National Conference nominee, making the question of appointing polling agents irrelevant.

He added that all procedural requirements, including the appointment of agents, were completed by the contesting candidate in accordance with established rules. The PDP, he said, also issued a whip to its legislators, who voted in line with the party’s decision and in coordination with the authorised representative of the National Conference during the election process.

Bhan said raising questions on clearly defined electoral procedures creates confusion and reflects either a lack of understanding or an attempt to mislead the public. He urged political leaders to verify facts before making public statements on institutional matters.

Referring to earlier statements, he said NC president Farooq Abdullah had publicly acknowledged PDP’s support and thanked the party leadership. He said this contradicted recent claims made by other NC representatives.

Reaffirming the party’s position, Bhan said the PDP’s role in the election was transparent and in accordance with democratic norms, adding that any attempt to misrepresent the facts would not stand scrutiny.
