SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir authorities have confirmed adequate availability of essential commodities across the Union Territory, with sufficient stocks of fuel, LPG and other key supplies maintained in both divisions.
Officials said petroleum products, cooking gas and critical supplies for essential services are being closely monitored to ensure uninterrupted availability amid concerns linked to the recent West Asia crisis.
In Jammu, diesel stocks are sufficient for around 11 days and petrol for about four days, with additional supplies in transit. LPG availability stands at 8–10 days, while kerosene stocks remain stable. In Kashmir, petrol and diesel stocks are sufficient for 17–19 days, extendable up to 20–22 days with incoming supplies, and LPG stocks are adequate for around 15 days. Supplies for commercial establishments, industrial units, hospitals and other essential institutions have also been reported as adequate.
Authorities have directed strict action against hoarding and attempts to create artificial scarcity, including licence suspensions and issuance of show-cause notices to violators. Around 40 essential commodities are currently under active price monitoring, with guidelines issued to prevent overcharging and ensure affordability.
Fertiliser stocks across the Union Territory have been described as stable, though officials stressed the need for continued monitoring and judicious use to ensure equitable distribution among farmers.
The directions were issued during a high-level review meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo on Wednesday, held to assess the availability and distribution of essential commodities across districts following concerns over potential supply chain disruptions.
The Chief Secretary instructed Deputy Commissioners to complete full e-KYC saturation of beneficiaries under the Public Distribution System within two weeks to strengthen transparency and efficiency. He also ordered strict monitoring of fertiliser distribution and the implementation of Aadhaar-enabled systems to improve accountability and prevent misuse.
He further directed district administrations to remain alert and respond swiftly to any disruption in supplies, emphasising coordinated action across departments. Divisional Commissioners assured that the situation is under continuous review and that adequate arrangements are in place to ensure uninterrupted supply across Jammu and Kashmir.
The meeting was attended by senior officials from departments including Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS and CA), School Education, IT and Transport, along with Divisional Commissioners of Jammu and Kashmir, the Inspector General of Traffic, and other officers, who reviewed supply positions and enforcement measures.
