Gaurav slams ‘Repeat Offender’ Congress over controversial remarks on PM

JK News Today

Jammu, April 22: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Spokesperson and Convenor, International Affairs, Gaurav Gupta, has strongly condemned the recent remarks made by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, terming them “deeply irresponsible, derogatory, and reflective of the Congress party’s complete loss of political balance.”

In a detailed statement issued today, Gaurav Gupta said that the language used by the Congress leadership has “crossed all acceptable limits of democratic discourse” and has hurt the dignity of the highest constitutional office in the country. He noted that such remarks have been widely condemned across the political spectrum, with senior leaders and constitutional authorities terming them “atrocious” and a new low in public life.

Gupta further highlighted that the BJP has already approached the Election Commission of India, seeking strict and exemplary action against Mallikarjun Kharge. He said the party has demanded that the Commission take “suitable penal action” as the statement falls under one of the gravest forms of public imputations and may also amount to a violation of the Model Code of Conduct.

Referring to Kharge’s subsequent clarification, Gupta said that “damage control statements cannot undo the harm already caused,” adding that the Congress leader had initially made the remark publicly and only later attempted to dilute it by claiming he meant that the Prime Minister “terrorises political opponents.”

Gupta asserted that this is not an isolated incident but part of a consistent pattern of abusive rhetoric by the Congress party. He cited multiple past instances where Congress leaders, including Mallikarjun Kharge, made controversial remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, ranging from calling him a “poisonous snake” during the 2023 Karnataka elections to comparing him with “Ravana” and making other derogatory statements in previous election campaigns.

“Such repeated statements clearly indicate that Congress has lost its sense, direction, and ideological grounding. Instead of focusing on governance, development, and people-centric issues, the party is indulging in cheap, personal, and sensational remarks to remain politically relevant,” Gaurav Gupta said.

He further added that the Congress party’s “desperation and frustration” have led it to adopt a politics of negativity and insult, which not only degrades democratic values but also sends a wrong message to the public, especially the youth.

Demanding accountability, Gupta called upon Mallikarjun Kharge to issue an immediate and unconditional public apology to the people of India for his remarks. He also urged the Election Commission and other competent authorities to take strict action to ensure that such incidents do not recur.

Reiterating BJP’s stance, he said, “The Bharatiya Janata Party firmly believes in dignified, issue-based, and development-oriented politics. We strongly oppose any attempt to lower the standards of public discourse and will continue to stand against such irresponsible statements.”

Gupta concluded by warning Congress party to introspect and return to constructive politics, emphasizing that “India’s democracy deserves serious debate, not reckless and insulting commentary.”
