SRINAGAR: The Government on Saturday commenced distribution of ration under the Special Relief Ration Scheme for Kashmiri and Jammu migrants, as notified under Government Order No. 15-JK(FCS and CA) of 2026 dated March 5, 2026.
The distribution process was launched simultaneously at 32 ration depots designated for migrants in District Jammu, along with other earmarked depots across various districts of the Jammu division.
Under the existing entitlement, all relief ration card holders—irrespective of classification under PHH, NPHH or Special categories—will receive 11 kg of free ration per person per month along with 1 kg of sugar. Migrants registered with the Relief Organisation under the non-relief category, including pensioners falling under NPHH, will be provided ration at government-approved rates in accordance with their entitlements under the National Food Security Act (NFSA).
Senior officials, including Director Food and Civil Supplies, Jammu, RK Shavan, and Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner, Arvind Karwani, visited ration depots at Jagti, Nagrota, Muthi-Buta Nagar and Purkhoo migrant camps to monitor the distribution process. The migrant community welcomed the initiative.
During inspections, the Director instructed officials to ensure smooth and uninterrupted distribution of ration to eligible beneficiaries and directed that e-KYC formalities for pending relief ration card holders be expedited. Facilities for completing e-KYC have been made available at all depots.
Officials noted that amendments to the Jammu and Kashmir Food Security Rules, 2021, and the Targeted Public Distribution (Control) Order, 2023—issued via S.O. 392 and S.O. 393 dated August 13, 2024—have enabled integration of migrant ration cards with the NFSA database, allowing beneficiaries to access multiple government welfare schemes.
Zonal Officers and Camp Commandants have been directed to reach out to eligible beneficiaries and assist them in applying for various online welfare schemes.
