SRINAGAR: Police have seized approximately 10 litres of illicit desi liquor and arrested one person during an operation in the Barmora area of Kathua district in Jammu and Kashmir.

The recovery was made following specific information that the accused was involved in the illegal manufacture and sale of liquor.

The case assumes significance as police continue efforts to curb illicit liquor trade in the district through targeted operations.

The accused has been identified as Sohan Lal, son of Baldev Raj, resident of Chak Drab Khan, Kathua.

Officials said a police team from Police Post Hatli intercepted the accused near the canal area at Barmora, where approximately 10 litres of desi liquor was recovered from his possession.

The contraband was seized on the spot, and the accused was taken into custody.

Police said a case under FIR No. 181/2026 has been registered at Police Station Kathua under relevant sections of the Excise Act.
